Everyone loves to start their body goals over in the new year. NEW YEAR. NEW ME.
I wanted my first blog to be about nutrition and why it's so important to find someone who looks out for your best interest. Jeremy is my person. I asked Jeremy a series of questions regarding health and what its like being a nutritionist.
Early last year I came to Jeremy with specific goals in mind. I told him I wanted to be FINE FINE. Once I told him my goals He then asked me what were my daily routines, everyday food options, my weaknesses, and more.
Once we went through that he then broke down my everyday food options into how many carbs, micros, macros were in teach food item. I really didn't know that have of the things I were eating weren't really good for me as much as I thought they were. I was truly amazed at how he took the time to break everything down for me so I could see what I was really eating.
Even though he is not my current trainer I still implement everything he has taught me when I go grocery shopping now.
When you have Jeremy as your trainer he will give you a 30 day meal plan, individual workouts to try on your own, and you work out with him in private sessions/groups. He also does online training as well! If you are located in Tallahassee I highly recommend him! He's the best you can find Him at New You Fitness Studio located by FAMU.
What are some of your qualifications as a nutritionist, and how have you set yourself apart in your field?
As a nutritionist I formulate personalized meal plans for clients who struggle with healthier eating. Becoming a nutritionist set me apart because not many Personal Training are actual experts in nutrition. I can now provide better services to my clients because of this professional certification.
Why is it important for individuals to have dietary fiber on a regular basis? What does fiber do for the body?
Fiber is important for regular bowel movements and keeping you feeling more full. The more fiber you intake the less likely you are to crave other foods in general due to the “full” effect. Fiber essentially helps with regular bowel movements and keeping blood work levels in a good state.
How would you help a standard client start to lose weight through proper dieting? What is some common advice you give?
I meet my clients where they are at because everyone’s journey starts at a different moment in their life. Common advice I give is to not rush to the finish line. My clients typically have long term goals they wish to achieve, so in order to achieve these I break down with them the baby steps that must be made make these goals happen.
What are some of the most effective methods you have encountered when it comes to helping clients and groups make necessary lifestyle changes?
The most effective methods have been all about how I coach. One coaching method is the maintenance of the relationship a coach has with their client(s). Clients and groups need a sense of community whether it’s a relationship between the trainer and client, client to client, or trainer to multiple clients. Communication in these relationships are vital because it allows everyone to know they are not alone in their journey to change their lifestyle. Another effective method is being a great listener when a client expresses their concerns to me. When I listen I can get to the root needs of a client which can help accelerate their progress. The best method is fixing up habits. When we change our habits, we change our overall behavior, which in turn transforms our overall lifestyle before we know it.
What was a difficult experience you had in your current or previous nutritional position? How did you handle the situation?
The only difficult experience was understanding how to get my clients to follow their meal plans. I became a certified nutritionist to become better at tackling this problem, which has helped tremendously.
Do you have any advice for anyone trying to be a nutritionist?
Do not do it because you just want to make more money. Think about how it can add to your value as a health professional.
