In The Age Of Distractions

Every single person has the ability to stay focused on something for an

extended period of time. If you get distracted as easily as I do, don’t feel alone.

Every so often me and my best friend Faith talk about our goals and

dreams and I always start off so strong about them but eventually I end the conversation with

“But I can't seem to maintain my consistency for a long period of time.”

It turns out most people get distracted very easily, and very often. For some it comes in the forms of television, social media, video games, people, and sometimes us.

But being distracted isn’t the worst part. We’re also not too good at getting back to work after being distracted.

For example, I'll start one project, work on it for a little bit, then lose focus and try something else.

And then I'll lose focus on my new goal and try something else. And on and on. When everything is said and done, I’ve stopped and started so many times that I never really made much progress. Maybe you have felt this way too. After many times of me pursing a new goal and it not following through I had to self check myself....Like Taylor seriously why can’t you finish through? Why are you being lazy? Not saying the road will always be hard but there will be one or two road blocks or distractions in the way. In order for me to regain my focus again I remind my self of these 5 helpful tips.

1. Know your priorities.

What are your priorities? You shouldn’t have to look them up. You should know your priorities and trust in them.

2. Share your priorities with those close to you.

When it comes to sharing my goals/dreams I usually share them with my immediate family, and best friends. I don’t usually share my goals with just anyone especially if they don’t have any of their own. I say this because what’s the point of sharing your thoughts with someone who doesn’t have any of their own. It’s not like they can give you any advice on pursing them and staying focused.

3. Let it go.

Saying Yes to your big goals means that you must say No to other things. Decide what can or should be eliminated from your schedule. This might be socializing, spending time on social media, drama, or loving the wrong person. But it might also be that you need to pull back from venues that aren’t serving you that haven’t paid off after consistent effort.

4. Believe.

Trust that you can reach your big goals. Push past your discomfort. Learn through repeated experiments that you are stronger than you think that you are more capable and more tolerant of discomfort than you think.

5. Ask yourself: “What If . . . ?” Ask yourself "What if someone else takes my idea?"...How would you feel if you saw your idea being sold? It wouldn’t be a good feeling. Just thinking of the thought of someone taking my idea from me gives me the motivation to stay on task.

Hopefully these tips can help you on starving your distractions and regaining your focus.

Give your goals 110%!
